Power Out? Emergency Electrician Help in Central Oklahoma
Whole house or part of the house without power: first figure out whether it is the utility or your home.
Power out / emergency
What usually goes wrong
Look outside first. If your neighbors are dark too, it is almost certainly a utility outage. Report it to your electric provider, whether that is OG&E, a rural electric co-op or a city utility, and wait for them; an electrician cannot fix the grid. If only your home is out, or half of it works and half does not, the problem may be at your panel, meter or service line, and that is a call for an electrician, sometimes along with the utility.
Never touch or go near a downed power line, and keep kids and pets away. Treat every fallen line as live and call the utility or 911. Do not drive over one.
If you use a portable generator, run it outdoors away from windows and doors, and never plug it into a wall outlet. When you call for emergency help, ask about after-hours fees before the visit; availability depends on the provider.
