Before you call
Three safe things to check before you call
- Your neighbors. If their lights are out too, it is likely a utility outage. Report it to your electric company instead of calling an electrician.
- The breaker panel, from the outside. Look for a handle sitting in the middle or off position. Reset it once by pushing it fully off, then on. If it trips again, leave it off.
- GFCI outlets. Dead bathroom, kitchen, garage or outdoor outlets often share one GFCI outlet with a reset button somewhere else on the circuit.
Questions
How this works
Am I calling an electrical company?
No. Oklahoma Electrician Pros is a free referral service. Your call is connected to an independent, local electrician who serves your area. That business does the work, sets the price and is responsible for its own licensing and insurance.
Is there a charge for the call?
The call and the referral are free. You pay only the electrician, and only for work you agree to, so ask about trip charges or diagnostic fees up front.
Which towns are covered?
Shawnee, Chickasha, Choctaw, Harrah, Norman, Meeker, Prague and Anadarko, along with nearby parts of Pottawatomie, Grady, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Lincoln and Caddo counties. Coverage depends on which providers are available.
My power is out. Should I call you or the utility?
Check whether your neighbors have power. If they are out too, call your electric utility. If it is only your home, or only part of it, call and get connected with an electrician. Stay away from any downed line.
Can I reset a breaker myself?
Once, yes: push the handle fully off, then back on. If it trips again, leave it off and have an electrician find the cause. Do not remove the panel cover or replace breakers yourself.
